GOOD EATS: brunching on mother's day at the Highline

Snuggled on the 6th floor amidst Xintiandi skyscrapers is Highline: a classy, terraced space with modern, tropical decor. Open glass doors lead from the outside terrace to a greenhouse-like, glass-ceilinged area, allowing the Sunday morning sunlight to fill the entire restaurant. Floor-to-ceiling mirrors line the interior walls, creating a super spacious and breezy vibe. Paired with chill house music, marble tables, salmon pink and forest green couches in addition to REAL potted FOLIAGE around every corner, Highline is a literal oasis in the city.

Infinity glass railings open Highline's terraced space to a magnificent view of Shanghai.

The gorgeous decor may show signs of a restaurant that tries to win over its customers simply through eye-dazzling aesthetics which upon closer scrutiny, serves food that does not live up to the state-of-the-art furnishing. But Highline proves to not fall short on either criterion, because literally every single thing I ordered last Sunday for Mother’s day brunch gave me a f👏🏼o👏🏼o👏🏼d👏🏼g👏🏼a👏🏼s👏🏼m.

Some highlight dishes:

  1. Waffles with Fried Chicken paired with a buttery, creamy sauce ¥148 (13/10)

Crispy chicken and crunchy waffles make a perfect match.

2. Foie Gras Burger with very tangy garlic fries ¥98 (10/10)

Okayyyy what better feeling is there than foie gras melting in your mouth?

3. Açaí bowls! ¥68 (9/10)

(who doesn’t like a classic açaí bowl) - blueberry smoothie paired with all kinds of goodies.

4. Red Velvet Cake Sundae ¥88 (9/10)

Cheesecake/vanilla ice-cream and spongy red velvet cake sprinkled with cheesecake bits - mortal equivalent of ambrosia.

Overall price range per-person: ¥200-300

I actually haven’t been this pleasantly surprised by a restaurant in a very long time, so this was a very refreshing find. Definitely will be back, and 10/10 recommend coming during brunch time.

red and green decor give a super tropical vibe.
Glass ceiling allows the morning sunlight to fill the entire restaurant.

TIP: when making your reservation, be sure to request for a couch by the side of the glass railing. Those usually fill up quickly! However, if you choose to swing by during brunch time, it can get pretty hot on the terrace so maybe the inside area is preferable (this family started this huge ruckus cause the grandparents and infants couldn't stand the heat... rippethio).

Happy brunching!
